The Year-End Brand Audit: A 10-Point Checklist to Run Before January
December is a good time to check how your brand really looks and sounds. A ten-point year-end brand audit you can run in an afternoon.
The end of the year is a natural time to step back and look at your brand with fresh eyes. You don’t need a big project. A focused audit in an afternoon will show you what is working, what has drifted and what to fix in January.

Before you start
Gather examples from every place your brand appears: website, social media, emails, packaging, signage, invoices, proposals, adverts and your team’s email signatures. Put them in one folder or on one table. Seeing everything together is the fastest way to spot gaps. Our full guide on how to run a brand audit goes deeper.

The ten points
- Logo. Is the right version used everywhere? Any stretched, old or low-quality copies?
- Colours. Are they the same on screen, in print and on packaging?
- Typefaces. Are people using the fonts you chose, or defaults?
- Photography and imagery. Do images share a style and quality?
- Tone of voice. Read three recent messages aloud. Do they sound like the same person?
- Messaging. Can anyone on your team explain what you do in one sentence?
- Website. Does the first screen make clear what you offer and what to do next? See whether your website reflects your brand.
- Customer experience. Order, enquire and complain as a customer. How does it feel?
- Competitors. Has anything changed? A quick look at three rivals will tell you. See our competitor analysis guide.
- Evidence. What do your numbers, reviews and enquiries say about how people see you?
Score and sort
Give each point a score from one to five and add a note. Then sort the problems into three groups:
- Fix now. Quick wins, such as the wrong logo file or an outdated bio.
- Plan for next quarter. Bigger jobs, such as a website refresh or new templates.
- Watch. Things to review again in six months.
Share it
Show the team what you found. A short, friendly summary helps people see why consistency matters. Pin a one-page brand sheet where everyone can find it.
What if the audit shows deeper problems?
Sometimes the audit points to something larger: a brand that no longer fits the business. Read signs your business needs a rebrand before you decide.
Make it a habit
Repeat the audit every year and keep the results. A year-on-year record shows how far you’ve come.
