Black Friday Is Coming: How to Protect Your Brand When Everyone Is Discounting
Black Friday falls on 27 November 2026. How to join in without cheapening your brand, and the brand checks to make before the sales begin.

Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday 27 November, with Cyber Monday on Monday 30 November. Many UK retailers start discounting earlier in the month. If you sell products or services, you'll feel the pressure to join in. The question is how to do it without teaching customers to wait for a sale.

Decide your position first
There are three honest options, and all of them can work.
- Join in. Offer a real, limited discount, clearly framed and time-bound.
- Do it differently. Offer a gift, a bundle, an upgrade or early access instead of a lower price.
- Opt out. Say why. Some brands gain trust by explaining that they stand by their prices, their makers or their materials.
The mistake is drifting in without a decision, which leaves your brand looking confused.
Protect your price positioning
Premium brands in particular should be careful. Frequent discounts train people to buy only on offer and can weaken the sense that the product is worth its price. If you do discount, keep it limited, tell customers when it ends and avoid steep cuts that make your normal price look unreasonable.
Brand checks to make now
- Look consistent. Sale graphics should still use your colours, type and tone. Our guide to brand consistency across channels explains how.
- Keep the voice. A shouty, generic sales tone can sound like every other brand. Keep your tone of voice.
- Tidy your website. Make sure the pages people land on are clear and fast. See whether your website reflects your brand.
- Check the packaging and delivery experience. A busy season exposes weak packaging. Boxes that arrive damaged cost more than the discount.
- Plan your emails and social posts in advance so they're written, not rushed.
- Be honest. Show real prices and real end dates.
Think beyond the weekend
Black Friday buyers are often new. The brand work that matters is what happens next: a good unboxing, a thank-you, a reason to come back. A one-off shopper who loves the experience is worth more than a bargain hunter who never returns.
A note on small businesses
You can't outspend large retailers, and you don't have to. Small brands win on personality, story and service. Lean on what makes you different. Our guide to branding for small businesses is a good place to start.
