Google Ads Starts Pulling Promotions From Your Website: What to Check
From 12 October Google Ads can automatically extract promotions from your website and show them in search campaigns. Here's what that means and how to opt out.

From 12 October, Google Ads started automatically finding promotions on advertisers' websites, such as coupons and deals, and applying them to some search campaigns. It's an opt-out change, so if you haven't checked your settings, now's the time.

What's changing
According to Search Engine Roundtable, Google Ads will identify high-quality promotions on your site and add them to your campaigns automatically, for some search campaigns, from 12 October. Advertisers are opted in by default.
In plain terms: if your website says "10% off your first order" or "free delivery over £50", Google may show that offer alongside your ad without you adding it by hand.
The upside
- More useful ads. Offers can make ads more appealing and may lift clicks.
- Less manual work. You don't have to set up each promotion yourself.
The risks
- Out-of-date offers. If an old banner is still on your site, Google might show it after the offer has ended.
- Offers you don't want advertised. A trade-only discount or a promotion for one product could appear where you didn't intend.
- Margin and legal issues. Showing a promotion that isn't valid can annoy customers and cause problems.
- Less control. Automated features often reduce your say over exactly what appears.
What to do
- Check your account settings for automated assets or promotions, and decide whether to keep them on.
- Review your website for any offers or banners that are out of date, and remove them.
- Look at the ads that appear. Search for your own terms and see what's shown.
- Monitor results for a couple of weeks and compare performance.
- Keep a record of what you changed and when.
A wider lesson
Platforms increasingly add automated features by default. It's good practice to review your accounts regularly and treat new settings as something to decide, not something that just happens. Our Google Ads audit checklist covers the checks worth making each month.
