Black Friday brings new customers. Whether they stay depends on what happens in the next few weeks. Brands that do well after the sales are rarely the ones with the biggest discounts. They’re the ones that make a good first impression and follow it up.

Why the follow-up matters

Many Black Friday shoppers are looking for a deal, not a relationship. That isn’t a reason to ignore them. A good experience gives them a reason to buy again without a discount, and word of mouth does the rest.

Seven things to do now

  1. Send a proper thank-you. A short, warm message that sounds like you, not an automated receipt.
  2. Make the unboxing memorable. A note, a small sample or a clear set of instructions turns a delivery into a moment. See our packaging design guide.
  3. Share useful information. How to use, care for or get the most from what they bought.
  4. Ask for feedback and reviews. Wait a few days for the product to arrive and make it easy to respond.
  5. Tell your story. New customers don’t know who you are. A short message about why you started builds a connection. Our brand story examples show how.
  6. Invite them in. A list, a community or an event gives people a reason to stay in touch.
  7. Offer a reason to return that isn’t a discount. Early access, a new product or a helpful guide.

Steps: Seven things to do now

Keep your voice

The same tone that won the sale should carry through every message afterwards. Our brand voice exercises can help you keep it consistent.

Learn from the data

Look at who bought, what they bought and where they came from. Which products had the most repeat orders? Which channels brought the best customers? Use it to decide what to do next year. If you don’t know where to start, our guide to increasing brand awareness explains what to measure.

Look after the existing customers too

Loyal customers watch how you treat newcomers. If the best prices go only to new people, they notice. Thank them and give them something of their own.
